Method and sources

The flags above are based on the country of birth of the Nobel laureates. Flags may be missing for several reasons: The winner can be an organization and thus lack country of birth; The country may have ceased to exist (eg Soviet Union). We have chosen to only display flags for countries who are members of the United Nations.

Sveriges Riksbank's Prize in Economic Sciences was established in connection with the Riksbank's 300th anniversary in 1968. The prize is awarded every year to a person or persons in the field of economic sciences who have produced work of outstanding importance. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences appoints the prize-winner(s) according to the same principles as for the Nobel Prizes and it is presented alongside the other categories in this application.
